Outware is proud to launch the new Melbourne Water Android app, which delivers the most popular dam and rainfall data straight to Android devices.
Information is updated daily and includes storage levels, rainfall at dams, and comparisons to previous years.
The app also shows pictures received from Thomson Dam Cam every 10 minutes during daylight hours.
Melbourne Water Manager, John Woodland, said the device follows the success of Melbourne Water’s iPhone app that was released last year.
“Melburnians use a broad range of smartphones and we wanted to ensure our storage data was available on the most popular devices,” he said.
“Our iPhone app has been downloaded over 33,000 times and scores an average rating of 4+ out of a possible 5 stars among users.
“We are expecting a strong level of interest in our new app, given the growing popularity of Google Android phones.”
A new feature of the app displays historical storage level charts for Melbourne’s dams going back to 1940.
“We often get asked how storage levels compare to previous years, particularly in the years before the drought. Now people can use their Android-based smartphone to see for themselves,” said Mr Woodland.
Mr Woodland said the free app was a simple way for people to stay informed about how Melbourne’s dams were tracking.
“The rainfall and water storage data on our website is extremely popular, especially after heavy rain. People are keen to know if it rained in the catchments and whether reservoir levels go up,” said Mr Woodland.
